Co-Founder & Specialist Wildlife Photography Guide

We’ve teamed up with multi-award winning landscape photographer, Chris Ceaser to bring you exceptional photographic experiences in dramatic locations. We nipped in to his busy gallery set in the heart of picturesque York, UK to have a chat with him about his work and what inspires him.

Chris is an award-winning photographer and an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society. For over a decade he has been running small, exclusive photographic courses and workshops throughout the UK and Europe. Taking clients to evocative destinations such as; Venice, Rome, Prague, the Scottish Highlands and Northern England, he works with them on a personal level to help them improve their photography techniques. He has an ingrained passion to help people of all photographic experience and abilities to produce exquisite landscape imagery and his friendly, enthusiastic approach to teaching will ensure you make the most of your photographic journey.

Chris Ceaser, Associate of the Royal Photographic Society and multi-award winning landscape photographer. And a jolly nice chap too!

What first inspired you to get in to landscape photography?

“A passion for the great outdoors. The interest in photography coincided with a growing awareness of the shapes, textures and patterns that can be found in the landscapes around us. There was a process whereby simply being in a location and looking at it turned in to actually seeing and noticing the beauty and the detail of the locations I explored.”

How do you approach landscape photography?

“I enjoy breaking down a scene, identifying key elements within a potential composition and arranging them in a way that leads the eye gently through the image as the composition unfolds.”

Great images are not made in an instant. An increased awareness of how light plays a major roll in landscape photography will enhance your ability to capture better images.

What do you think are the key skills a landscape photographer needs to create stunning images?

“Patience, perseverance and dedication. I spend a lot of time out in the field looking for opportunities for the conditions to do justice to the scene before me. Great images are not made in an instant. An increased awareness of how light plays a major roll in landscape photography will enhance your ability to capture better images.”

Together, we’re running a photography course on the Isle of Skye. What attracts you to the landscapes there?

“Wow! There are so many highlights! The Scottish Highlands are home to some of the world’s most stunningly rugged and romantic locations. Skye, and the journey through Rannoch Moor, provides a huge amount of photographic inspiration. Mountain-backed lochs, dramatic cliffs, secluded beaches and isolated glacial stream and waterfalls, all combining to make a wonderful photographic journey.”

Your workshops are always very well received by everyone who joins you. How would you describe your typical guest?

“I’ve been running courses for over a decade now and I can honestly say that it has been a pleasure to meet such a wide variety of interesting people of differing abilities and experience. No matter what the mix of abilities and backgrounds within a group the courses are always a pleasure to run and watching a sense of camaraderie grow amongst the participants is something which make my job such a joy. My guests walk away from courses with new friends, refreshed inspiration and new skills to take their photography forward.”
