Gorilla Trekking in Uganda is probably one of the most rewarding and intimate wildlife experiences you can have – many people have described it as life-changing. Imagine coming face-to-face and spending time in the company of such a noble species which displays such a high-level of intelligence and emotion… Very few experiences will compare or prepare you. There is no denying that sitting amongst wild gorillas with their searching, intelligent eyes in a face that almost reflects our own is a powerful experience.
On this incredible expedition you will join Alex Roldan, Co-founder of Earth Art Creative Expeditions. Our journey will take us through some of the most breathtaking scenery in Uganda and give you the opportunity to get close to, photograph and experience the critically endangered Mountain Gorilla.
We will be trekking and hiking in order to reach the areas where the Gorillas, Chimpanzees and other primates inhabit – so we advise that a reasonable and decent level of fitness is required as sometimes the terrain can be difficult.
The first leg of the journey will take us to Kibale, famous for its Chimpanzee population. We will embark on foot to track and locate these amazing primates in their natural habitat whilst also looking out for other species such as Colobus monkeys, Bushbabies and many more.
The middle part of the journey will not only break up the potentially lengthy walking activities, but also give the chance to witness and photograph a diverse range of African species. We will take in a private boat cruise on the Kazinga Chanel, searching for elephants and the myriad of beautifully coloured bird species which inhabit the water’s edge. From here we travel in to the Queen Elizabeth National Park, enjoying Safari game drives and also partake in predator tracking with a local research team. We will also spend some time in the southern section of the reserve looking for the famous fig-tree climbing lions.
Next, we head to Bwindi, Impenetrable Forest to spend two mornings in search of the noble Mountain Gorillas. This part of the trip will involve trekking and hiking through potentially difficult terrain but it will certainly be worthwhile as it will give a great chance of having a life-changing experiencing with this astounding, yet critically endangered species. Again, a reasonable and decent level of fitness is required.
This outstanding journey has been considered to give you an exceptional wildlife experience – giving you the opportunity to witness and photograph a diverse range of African species. Leaving you with an abundance of amazing memories and images to take home and inspire you.
Once you have booked and your place is confirmed; Alex will be in touch to talk through this amazing trip and also send you a suggested packing list.

I have been fortunate to have trained, qualified and subsequently worked as a professional Field Guide and Ranger in various game reserves around South Africa – including the world renowned Sabi Sands.

Chimpanzee trekking can be strenuous and is not for the faint-hearted. The chimpanzees are active during the day and can be highly mobile but this is definitely a worthwhile experience.
Gorilla Trekking: Again, this can be a strenuous activity. Gorillas move continuously through the rain forest. It is always advisable to be prepared for weather conditions to change at any time. The terrain within the forest will probably be steep through areas where there are no marked paths. It can be very strenuous – as mentioned, the length of the treks can vary anywhere between two and seven hours depending on which family of gorillas we are tracking. It will be hot, humid and at moderately high altitudes – please be prepared for this by being as fit as possible. This may sound daunting but also please try to envisage how rewarding it will be to spend time in the company of this critically endangered species. It will truly be an experience like nothing you have had before. Being in the presence of a species which is wild yet shows a high degree of intelligence and emotion will certainly be something you will never forget.
